Consequences for Tardiness
518. CONSEQUENCES FOR TARDINESS
The Board recognizes that punctual and reliable attendance by support employees of the district is essential to the proper operation of district programs and activities.
Timely attendance by district employees is a matter of primary concern to the Board. These guidelines express that concern through direction to the Superintendent and district staff as to how tardiness and attendance are to be treated.
Tardiness is any failure to report to work at the scheduled time. Occasionally, employees may be late for work due to factors not under their control such as unexpected traffic delays or sudden emergencies at home, but these occurrences should be the exception to a record of punctual attendance.
It shall be the responsibility of the Supervisor to assess the following consequences when a support employee fails to meet attendance requirements.
Any employee who expects to be late reporting for work shall call the appropriate supervisor as soon as the reason for the lateness is known. While the disciplinary progression will normally follow the five steps, the Supervisor has the authority to skip steps based on the incident.
Unexcused tardiness will carry the following disciplinary consequences:
First Offense - Verbal Warning
Second Offense - Written Warning
Third Offense - Written Reprimand
Fourth Offense - Suspension from work without pay
Fifth Offense - Recommendation for Dismissal
