Benefits
541. BENEFITS

The Board recognizes the necessity of employing and retaining competent and qualified support employees as essential to the effective operation of the program of the District. Toward this end the Board establishes various employment benefits available to support employees.
Medical Benefits
Health, major medical, dental and vision insurance coverage is provided through participation in the Central Susquehanna Region School Employees' Health and Welfare Trust, with the premiums for full-time employees and their families paid by the District. Alternative health care plans are provided through the Geisinger Health Plan (GHP), Keystone Health Plan Central (KHP Central) and First Priority Health. Premiums for these alternative plans are paid by the District for full-time employees, up to monthly cost of the basic Trust Plan for health and major medical coverage.
Support staff who retire from full-time status under qualifications of the Public School Employees' Retirement System may continue to participate in the Trust or alternate programs until reaching age sixtyfive (65). The District will pay one-half of the cost for a period of five (5) years following retirement or until age sixty-five (65), whichever is less. Thereafter, participation will be at the retiree's expense.
Life Insurance
A term life insurance policy, with a face value of thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) is provided to all full-time support employees. Premiums are paid by the District.
Disability Insurance
Disability insurance coverage is provided each support employee and premiums are paid by the District.
Retirement Benefits
Each support employee of the District who permanently retires from working in the public school system and is eligible to receive benefits from the Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS) shall be eligible to be paid one of the amounts listed in (1) or (2) below, which ever is greater, subject to the restrictions listed below, and further provided that the employee retires from District employment with at least ten (10) years of service. This payment is not a part of salary for purposes of retirement pay calculations.
1. Upon completion of a minimum of ten (10) years in the District, the support employee shall be eligible to receive a bonus payment of five hundred dollars ($500).
2. a. Upon the completion of a minimum of fifteen (15) years in the District, the support employee shall be eligible to receive twelve dollars ($12.00) per day for unused sick days, with a maximum of twelve hundred dollars ($1,200).
b. Upon completion of a minimum of twenty (20) years in the District, the support employee shall be eligible to receive fifteen dollars ($15.00) per day of unused sick days, with a maximum amount of eighteen hundred dollars ($1,800).
c. Upon the completion of a minimum of twentyfive(25) years in the District, the support employee shall be eligible to receive eighteen dollars ($18.00) per day for unused sick days, with a maximum amount of two thousand eight hundred eighty dollars ($2,880).
d. Upon completion of a minimum of thirty (30) years in the District, the support employee shall be eligible to receive twenty dollars ($20.00) per day for unused sick days, with a maximum of three thousand six hundred dollars ($3,600).
In order to qualify for this retirement benefit, the employee must retire under provisions of PSERS and is restricted to normal, superannuation or disability(25) years of service credited at age fifty-five (55) or older.
The payment determined above shall be paid to the employee at the time of the employee's last regular salary payment before retirement. Part-time employees will receive a prorated payment.
Statutory Entitlements
All support employees are provided by law Workers' Compensation Insurance for injuries received on the job, unemployment compensation when the employee becomes unemployed and all participate the Public School Employees' Retirement System. Each of these benefits are administered in accordance with the laws governing it.
Leaves
The several kinds of leaves available to support employees are enumerated below. The policy which details eligibility and conditions for each is listed, along with the type of leave.
1. Emergency and Personal Leave.
2. Family and Medical Leave.
3. Sick Leave.
4. Jury Duty and other Civic Activities.
5. Uncompensated Leaves of Absence.
6. Vacations.
7. Paid Holidays.
Part-Time Employees
Benefits for part-time support employees will be prorated on the basis of each such employee's work week or work year and its relation to the work week or work year of a full-time position. Such benefits will be established at the time of employment and proration determined at that time.
