530. OVERTIME

The Board directs that compensation for work in excess of the established workweek for each grade of support staff be made through increased rates of pay.

Overtime will be computed at the rate of one and one-half (1 1/2) times the regular rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of the base work week of forty (40) hours.

Time worked on a Sunday or a holiday shall be compensated at two (2) times the employee’s regular hourly or daily pay, regardless of hours worked that week.

For purposes of computing overtime, credit shall be given in quarter hour increments.

Time off for holidays, sick leave, personal leave, and vacation will not be included when computing overtime.

In order to assure compliance with applicable law regarding payment of overtime for hours worked beyond regular hours, and to assure consistent treatment of all employees subject to this policy and law, the Board directs the Superintendent, or a designee, to develop guidelines for the administration of this policy.

Secretarial/Clerical Staff

Under normal circumstances, full-time secretarial/clerical employees will not be compensated for hours worked beyond the 7-hour workday or 35 hour workweek. Compensatory time, granted by the immediate supervi¬sor, may be used in lieu of payment for extra hours.

Special assignments or extra hours, that require evening, weekend, or holiday work, or extra hours beyond the normal workday and the pay for such assignments will be subject to approval by Superintendent upon the request of the employee’s immediate supervisor.

Aides

Aides do not qualify for increase rates of pay for hours worked in excess of normally scheduled hours per day or week.

Extra hours worked, when prior approval is received from the employees, building administrator or district level supervisor, will be compensated at the employee's regular rate of pay.

Compensatory time is prohibited.
