Selection of Instructional Material & Media
109. SELECTION OF INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALAND MEDIA

The Board of School Directors recognizes its responsibility to provide instructional materials and a learning atmosphere that will provide the freedom for the students to learn, the faculty to teach and the administration to administer the schools in such a manner that students will be given an opportunity to explore all fields of knowledge in order to develop a comprehensive, educational background. Likewise, the Board of School Directors recognizes its responsibility to the parents and citizens of the School District to provide an avenue and vehicle to be employed by those who wish to challenge the selection and/or use of instructional materials in the School District.
The Board of School Directors, as a governing body of the School District, is legally responsible for the selection and adoption of instructional materials employed within the School District. However, since the Board is primarily a policy-making body, it delegates to the professional staff of the district the responsibility to select instructional materials and to use said materials in accordance with officially-adopted policies of the Board of School Directors and School Code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The Board, in adopting this policy, regulations and guidelines, directs the administration and faculty to adhere to such and further directs the Superintendent of Schools to provide in the guidelines a procedure and process for the challenge of instructional material and media by parties so disposed.
A listing of all resource materials shall be made available for the information of the parents, for the use of the professional staff, for the information of the members of the Board and the students.
