112. GUIDANCE/COUNSELING SERVICES

A guidance counseling program is an integral part of the instructional program of district schools. Such a program shall:

1. Help students identify intellectual, emotional, social, and physical needs, and develop meaningful and healthy responses to these needs.

2. Provide resources and information to aid students in recognizing options and making choices in vocational and academic educational planning.

3. Assist students in identifying career options consistent with their abilities and goals.

4. Help students learn to make their own decisions and to solve problems independently.

5. Help students to recognize the differences among members of our community, to appreciate these differences, and to respect all members of our community.

The Board directs that a program of guidance and counseling shall be offered to all students that involves the coordinated efforts of all staff members, under the professional leadership of certificated guidance and counseling personnel.

The Superintendent or designee shall implement a guidance program that serves the needs of students.

The district’s program of guidance counseling shall:

1. Involve staff members at every appropriate level.

2. Cooperate with parents/guardians and address their concerns for the development of the student.



3. Provide means for sharing information among appropriate staff members in the best interests of the student.

4. Be equally accessible to all students.

5. Identify resources offered by the school and community and establish a referral system that utilizes those resources, guards the privacy of the student, and monitors the effectiveness of such referrals.
