Building Security
709. BUILDING SECURITY

The Board recognizes the need to maintain security of school facilities for reasons of vandalism and theft. Toward this end, a program of building security shall be administered by the Superintendent or his/her designee with the cooperation of the individual building principals. The need for access shall be the underlying principle in determining who shall have keys for access to school properties.
The Board directs the Superintendent to develop guidelines to identify who will be entitled to have keys to school facilities and who may have after hoursaccess to the school facilities.
A. Facilities Access
Unlimited Access -
The Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Administrative Services, and the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds
Limited Access -
Building Administrators to their assigned building(s), building secretaries to their assigned building; professional staff, at the discretion of the building administrator(s), to their assigned building(s); head building custodians to their assigned building; and extracurricular sponsors or supervisors for their areas of activity.
B. Possession of Keys
1. A master log of key assignments for the district shall be maintained by the office of the Superintendent or other designated office.
2. A list of key assignments for each building shall be maintained by the principal of each building.
3. Individuals assigned key may not duplicate or loan them.
4. All keys must be surrendered when there is no longer a need or upon request of the Superintendent or building principal.
5. The loss of a key must be reported to the Superintendent, his/her designee, or building principal upon discovery.
6. Overnight key loans may be made by request to the Superintendent, his/her designee, or building principal.
7. A set of master keys and/or duplicates of key shall be kept in the custody of the Superintendent or his/her designee and maintained in a safe or secured box.
8. The building custodian on duty shall restrict entry to one controlled point.
9. Entry to a school building shall be prohibited when a person authorized as representative for the building is not present.
